research on aging. The SC-CÉ is not responsible
for any content found in these external websites, nor
does it endorse any of the content on these external
sites. Currently, the SC-CÉ focuses its links
on/to government, academic, and research
institutions.

Policy
The Student Connection -
Connexion Étudiante (SC-CÉ) respects the privacy of visitors to
its website and the privacy of its members. The SC-CÉ complies
with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic
Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What is PIPEDA?
PIPEDA ensures that personal
information is "collected with consent and for a
reasonable purpose, used and disclosed for the limited purpose
for which it was collected, accurate, accessible for inspection
and correction, and stored securely" (Industry Canada 2004).
Personal information includes names, addresses, telephone
numbers, gender, beliefs and opinions; but does not include the
name, business title/address/telephone number of any employee
(i.e. information appearing on a business card) (Industry Canada
2004).

What personal
information is collected by the SC-CÉ and why is it collected?
Through voluntary and informed
consent, the following personal information is collected by the
SC-CÉ: name, e-mail address, research interest(s), and
university/college affiliation.
Names, e-mail addresses, and university/college affiliations from
all SC-CÉ members are needed for communication between
the SC-CÉ Executive/Student Representatives with all SC-CÉ
members. Personal information from non- SC-CÉ Executive members
and non-Student Representatives will not be shared with the
general public without prior consent.
Names, e-mail addresses, and university/college affiliations from
SC-CÉ Executive members and Student Representatives are
needed for communication between these members and
representatives and for communication with the general public.
In an effort to promote collaboration in the study of aging
issues, the SC-CÉ website includes a publicly available list of
members' research interests and their contact information. The
information in this list is provided voluntarily and through
informed consent.
Our Commitment To
Privacy
- We do not automatically
collect any personal information from visitors to our
website. The website uses a counter only to determine the
number of visits to our website and does not collect any
personal information.
- Personal information is
only collected if it has been provided voluntarily and
through informed consent.
- Personal information from
an individual will not be posted on our website or shared
with non- SC-CÉ Executive/Student Representatives
without prior consent from the individual.
- If personal information is
posted (with prior consent), the individual has the right
to ask the Privacy Officer that his/her personal
information be changed to ensure accuracy or to have
his/her personal information removed.
- An external website (www.statcounter.com) uses software to record ongoing statistics of visitors to the SC-CÉ website. The SC-CÉ does not have access to visitors' personal information that may identify them.
